Impact Beyond Intent: The role of Global Health Initiatives in ART roll-out PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 27 August 2008

A new working paper has been released by Evidence for Action, looking at the role of Global Health Initiatives (especially PEPFAR and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria) in the roll-out of ART in Zambia and South Africa. Global Health Initiatives have been crucial to the scale-up of ART in Zambia, but they have led to some unintended consequences, including taking human resources away from the public sector, lack of coordination at district level, focusing of resources to high population density areas, and problems with sustainability. This is based on findings from a small initiative grant, with collaboration between researchers from LSHTM and ZAMBART.
