ZAMBART awarded new grant to study Improving equity in access to HIV care and treatment PDF Print E-mail

ZAMBART, the University of Zambia, Department of Social Development Studies and the University of Basel, Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (Switzerland) have been awarded a 3-year (2009-2011) grant to undertake a study on improving equity in access to HIV care and treatment in Zambia.  The research collaboration is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Through this collaboration, ZAMBART will be sub-granted 200,000 Swiss Francs, and one Evidence for Action member of staff will be given support to conduct a PhD at the University of Basel.

Thousands visit Uganda Virus Research Institute PDF Print E-mail

Thousands of students from secondary schools and universities visited an open day held by MRC/UVRI on 5th March. The day encouraged young people to become scientists, showcasing the work of MRC/UVRI and Makerere University. The event included displays, music and talks, and gave visitors the chance to speak to researchers about their work.

World AIDS day events a success PDF Print E-mail

The week of World AIDS day events held at LSHTM from 1 - 5 Dec was very well attended by staff and students and much enjoyed by all. Volunteers on the stall succeeded in raising almost £250 for the Terrence Higgins Trust and National AIDS Trust through sales of red ribbons.

Particularly well attended was the student – organised panel debate on HIV funding, which brought together a range of views on a controversial topic, as well as stretching room capacity to the limit!
