DFID launched their new Research Strategy for 2008-2013. This strategy outlines their priorities for research in the next five years.DFID have committed to spending £1bn on research over the next five years. Health remains one of the priority areas for research. Within the area of health, DFID will concentrate on:
  • Operational research to make health programmes more effective
  • Research on health systems
  • Developing drugs and vaccines for HIV and AIDS, TB and malaria and other diseases that most affect poor people
